Outside Plant (OSP) fiber cable applications have seen major jumps in fiber packing density in recent years, and microcables are the leading edge pushing the limits. These cables are intended to be jetted (or blown) into microducts, and the microduct/microcable combination provides protection from the OSP environment. Microcables are increasingly being used throughout the network due to various efficiencies they provide, in applications varying from fiber-dense metropolitan trunks to even rural FTTH distribution cables. This presentation will dive into the intricacies of microcable from a product development engineer’s perspective, largely focusing on the traditional and latest features of this growing cable family.
